Coventry City came from a goal down to move five points clear at the top of the Championship following a 2-1 win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Wednesday. 

After seeing Middlesbrough drop points to Leicester City a day earlier, the Sky Blues took full advantage as quickfire goals from Haji Wright and Jack Rudoni sealed the win.

The Blades laid siege to Carl Rushworth's goal in the opening 45 minutes, with Patrick Bamford squandering their best opportunity with a tame effort at the visiting goalkeeper. 

But three minutes after the restart, Chris Wilder's men led through Harrison Burrows, who slammed the ball home after being picked out by Gustavo Hamer's clever pass.

However, that seemed to awaken Coventry, who responded four minutes later when Wright cut inside from the left and fired a shot underneath the grasp of Michael Cooper. 

And the comeback was completed in the 57th minute by Rudoni, who headed Ephron Mason-Clark's cross into the bottom-right corner to send the travelling support into delirium. 

Tyrese Campbell thought he had won a penalty but saw his appeals waved away by referee John Busby as Coventry held on for a huge three points in the second-tier title race. 

Elsewhere in the Championship, already-relegated Sheffield Wednesday lost 2-0 to Norwich City at Carrow Road to cap a miserable day for the Owls.

A consortium led by James Bord pulled out of a proposed takeover of the club, who will play their football in League One next year after losing to the city rivals last weekend. 

Millwall moved up to third in the table with a 3-0 win over 10-man Birmingham City, with Femi Azeez's stunning 25th-minute opener sending Alex Neill's side on their way. 

Data Debrief: Blades blunted by high-flying Coventry

After going three league games without a win at the end of January and into this month, Coventry have hit form at the right time to further boost their chances of a return to the Premier League, with this their third consecutive victory. 

And it was one against a side they have not had much luck against of late. Indeed, following their 3-1 win in November, Coventry completed a league double over the Blades for the first time since 2001-02.

It also saw Sheffield United's unbeaten seven-game home league run against the Sky Blues come to an end as they tasted defeat against them in the league for the first time since a 2-1 loss in February 2013. 

But Wilder will perhaps be left to rue their glut of missed chances, with his team registering an expected goals (xG) total of 1.68 from their 22 shots, four of which were on target compared to Coventry's 0.64 from their 11 attempts.
