Leicester appoint Rowett until end of the season
Gary Rowett has been given the task of turning Leicester City's season around as they look to avoid relegation from the Championship.
Leicester City have announced the appointment of Gary Rowett as their manager until the end of the 2025-26 season.
Rowett takes over from Marti Cifuentes, who was sacked in January after just one win since the turn of the year.
The Foxes are currently 22nd in the Championship, entering the relegation zone after a six-point deduction for a breach of financial rules, which they have since appealed.
Rowett has plenty of experience in the English second-tier. He has taken charge of 417 games in the division, winning 157 of those matches (D135 L125) and averaging 1.45 points per game.
The 51-year-old most recently managed Oxford United earlier this season, though parted ways with the club in December.
Rowett, who made 49 appearances for Leicester as a player, will take charge of his first game against Stoke City on Saturday.
"I'm really proud to be the new Leicester City manager and to have the opportunity to work with and lead a really talented group over the coming months," Rowett said.
"It's very clear to us all what needs to be achieved between now and the end of the season and the work begins immediately.
"I'm looking forward to building connections with the players, with the staff at the club and with all of fans - all of which will be vital to helping us secure the results we need."
