Jack Rudoni scored a last-gasp winner as Coventry City moved eight points clear at the top of the Championship with a 2-1 win over Stoke City.

Haji Wright nodded home to put Frank Lampard's side in front after 12 minutes, with Stoke goalkeeper Tommy Simkin frequently called into action as Coventry pushed for more.

However, Ben Gibson pulled the visitors level in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time with their only shot on target in the match.

Simkin continued to keep Coventry at bay until Rudoni punished him for a terrible attempted clearance to earn a fourth win on the bounce for the league leaders.

And Millwall piled the pressure on Middlesbrough, who do not play until Monday, with their 2-0 win over Preston North End moving them within one point of second place.

Ryan Leonard put Millwall in front just before the half-hour mark and they made sure of all three points through substitute Luke Cundle in the 92nd minute.

Ipswich are just two points behind them in fourth, though, after a comfortable 3-0 win over Swansea City.

Hull City had moved above them after beating Portsmouth 1-0 earlier on Saturday, thanks to Matt Crooks, but the Tractor Boys went back in front after goals from Anis Mehmeti, Ivan Azon and George Hirst.

Southampton and Derby County also boosted their play-off hopes with respective 3-1 wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers.

At the other end of the table, Oxford United moved within three points of safety, and opponents West Brom, after edging past their fellow relegation fighters 2-1, with Will Lankshear netting the deciding goal at the Kassam Stadium.

Rudoni has now scored in his last three Championship games (three goals), which could prove to be very important in the race for top spot.

Coventry were dominant throughout against Stoke, racking up 20 shots, of which eight were on target, and accumulating 2.33 expected goals (xG). Stoke, by contrast, had three shots worth 0.21 xG.

Rudoni scored with the final effort of the game, earning Coventry consecutive home wins over Stoke for the first time since December 1982.
