Romelu Lukaku has withdrawn from Belgium's squad for their upcoming friendlies to focus on his recovery from injury.

Belgium are due to play against the United States and Mexico on their trip to the USA as they continue to prepare for the summer's World Cup, but Lukaku will not be involved.

The 32-year-old, who is Belgium's all-time top scorer with 89 goals in 124 games, has struggled with injuries this term that have limited his playing time.

As such, he has made just seven appearances for Napoli in all competitions, none of them from the start, totalling just 64 minutes.

"Romelu Lukaku will not take part in the upcoming Red Devils friendlies in the US against the United States and Mexico," Belgium said in a post on social media.

"Romelu has chosen to focus on training to further optimize his physical condition. The KBVB respects his decision and wishes him the best of luck."

Lukaku's last game for his country was a 4-3 win over Wales in World Cup qualifying in June, missing six international matches since.

He is the latest player to pull out of Belgium's squad, following Leandro Trossard's withdrawal on Monday.
