Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany admitted he is unsure as to how Borussia Dortmund will react after their Champions League exit, ahead of Die Klassiker on Saturday.

After defeating Atalanta 2-0 in the first leg of their play-off tie, Dortmund lost 4-1 in Italy, with Ramy Bensebaini conceding a stoppage-time penalty.

Dortmund became just the second German side to be eliminated from a two-legged Champions League knockout tie when winning the first leg by two or more goals, after Wolfsburg versus Real Madrid in the 2015-16 quarter-finals.

With just eight points separating Bayern and Dortmund ahead of their clash at Signal Iduna Park, Kompany is focused only on what his side can bring to the game.

"It could have any kind of effect on BVB, you don't know," said Kompany, when asked about Dortmund's loss to Atalanta.

"It was a setback, but it was also a game in which Dortmund could've progressed. So, it does have an impact mentally, which could go in either direction.

"What we have in our control is how we approach the game. We've had a healthy anger in training, which I love.

"We've had a very good week, we've done everything right up to kick-off – now we want to take that into the match."

Kompany also offered an update on injury concerns surrounding Manuel Neuer and Alphonso Davies.

Neuer missed Bayern's win over Eintracht Frankfurt last time out with a calf issue, while Davies suffered a hamstring tear early in the second half.

However, Kompany revealed that both players are well on their way to full fitness.

"With Manuel Neuer it's looking good. We had thought he'd be out for longer, but he might train with us, then we'll discuss it right up until the game," said Kompany.

"It's all positive – but maybe not for tomorrow. We're discussing it with Manu, though. If not, we'll go with Jonas Urbig, who's always filled in for him very well.

"Konny [Laimer] has trained all week. And Phonzy [Davies] is running – he's doing well too and will be back for the important month of March. We'll see next week."
